Valentine’s Day provides the perfect opportunity to wear a romantic lip color. It cannot be easy to keep lipstick on all night. Before you know it, you could find that your glass of wine or your boyfriend is wearing more lip color. We’ve compiled some foolproof tricks to keep lips looking bold, even through toasts and treats. Maybe even a few kisses. Here’s your step-by-step guide for creating and maintaining kissable, lovely lips.
Moisturize & Rejuvenate
You’ll want to add some moisture in order to prevent chapped lips and also eliminate flaking or dryness. Apply lip balm before you begin your makeup routine, and save lipstick for the end. This will allow the balm 10 to 15 minutes to absorb and hydrate. FixMySkin healing lip balm unflavored with 1% hydrocortisone is our favorite. Shea and cocoa oils, along with 1% hydrocortisone, are used to heal and soothe chapped lips. This convenient balm can be used to treat dry skin on your face and body during the winter.
Prime
Your lips are now almost ready to be colored. Lip primers can plump up lips, brighten the pigment, and keep color in place. Senna Transforming Lip Primer is a product that delivers in all areas. It even fills in wrinkles and fine lines. A dab of concealer can be used as a lip primer. Make sure to let it dry completely before you continue.
After applying primer, line your lips with a lip pencil in a shade that’s close to the color of your lips, then use this pencil to fill in those lips completely. It creates a barrier that prevents the paint from bleeding and feathering beyond your lip line. This also enhances your lipstick color. Jane Iredale Lip Pencil Crimson works beautifully under a red lip.
App Color
Choose a lip color that makes you confident and beautiful. Our favorite bold crimson shades are Jane-Iredale PureMoist Lipstick Margi and Glo Minerals GloLip Stick Siren. Lipstick can be applied with precision by sweeping a lip brush across the top to pick up color. Then, use the lipstick carefully to the lips. The Jane-Iredale retractable lip brush has a retractable bristle that keeps the meeting clean and neat. The forum has a pointed tip to ensure the best possible application. It’s also great for stashing it in your purse as a touch-up for late nights. After applying your lipstick, wipe it off, then repeat the process.
Lock in Color
The next step may seem odd, but it is crucial to lock in the color. Setting powder will keep your lip color in place. To finish the look, we like to dab on a loose powder such as Mirabella Perfection Powder. You can use a tissue to cover your lips lightly and then dust on the powder if you are worried about accidentally smudging it. The tissue fibers will allow the perfect amount of powder through to seal in the color.
