Tired of dry, frizzy and tangled hair? It’s a task to manage unruly tresses but it’s not impossible. Lack of moisture often dries hair and strips off the natural oil. This makes the hair prone to tangling and even causes hair breakage. Numerous factors contribute to frizz – surrounding environment, curly hair or even low humidity levels.
Most people often go for detangling spray that gently smoothens hair and reduces hair tangles. The detangler products are used the majority of the time as styling essentials and help in reducing hair knots. However, these tips are what you need to effectively reduce hair frizz.
Avoid using a towel for drying
While it is one of the most convenient ways to dry hair but it is not recommended for frizzy hair. If you have dry or curly hair, it is best to avoid rubbing and drying your hair using a towel. This is because it creates tangles and friction which further forms knots. As rubbing hair with a towel causes the hair cuticles to stick up, causing frizz and hair static. Instead, use a soft microfiber towel or cotton T-shirt to remove excess water.
Avoid using heating products
One of the biggest mistakes to avoid for frizzy, dry hair is the use of extensive heating and styling products. Instead of using a dryer to dry hair, let it dry naturally. Using heat styling products like straighteners or dryers for styling deprives hair of moisture which is the biggest contributor to frizz.
Use an anti-frizz shampoo and conditioner
Choosing the right shampoo and conditioner is a crucial step in haircare. Always go for products that are specially formulated for frizzy hair. This helps in not only reduce frizz but even helps repair and smoothen hair. Look for ingredients like argan oil, glycerin, ceramides etc. in the shampoo to reduce the frizz. Hyaluronic acid is another ingredient that is known to reduce frizz.
Apply a protective serum
One of the best ways to protect the hair and ensure it is well nourished is the application of hair serum. Take a little bit of hair serum and apply it along the length of the hair. This smoothens the hair and reduces frizz. The serum enriched with moisture-retaining ingredients is great for ultimate haircare. The serum is known to protect hair, protect against humidity, and instantly soften hair.
Hot oil massage
An oil massage is not only relaxing for the head but it has amazing benefits. Gently massage boosts blood circulation, strengthens follicular growth, and makes hair stronger from roots. Regular oiling nourishes and moisturises hair as it penetrates the hair follicles. It smoothens the cuticles and reduces the frizziness of the hair. You can combine different types of oil like coconut, argan, castor, almond etc. for a hot oil massage. After oiling, wrap a warm towel for better results.
Use a silk pillow cover
Replace the cotton or generic pillow cover with a silk pillow case as it reduces hair tangles and prevents breakage. Tossing and turning the head while sleeping at night often leads to hair breakage. If your hair is prone to tangling and breakage, it is best to either cover it with a satin scarf or use a silk/satin pillow cover. This keeps the hair nourished and in good condition.
It’s time to tame the frizz and accept the lovely curls as it is. Make sure to get hair trims every 3 months to reduce split ends. Also, if the frizz is too much, getting a keratin treatment is recommended as it smoothens the hair and nourishes the tresses with keratin protein.
